Layover Emergency!

Today was just like all of my other days of work. I commuted in at a decent hour, got some sleep, woke up at 330am and at the airport by 5am to start working.  We finished in Dallas around 11am, which was perfect.  I ate a delicious lunch provided by my wonderful boyfriend, took a nap, and then it was time to head over to the mall with the other flight attendant.

Everything was great. She was looking for some sweaters, we made fun of some terrrible dresses at Group USA, and eventually we found Marshall's where she found a few things she liked.  While she was trying things on, I waited near the dressing room- conveniently located next to the shoes.  I love shoes. I browsed. I decided to try on a pair of BCBG nude pumps that I saw back home and liked.  While trying them on, I noticed a sharp pain in my right shoulder and that I was getting a little dizzy.  I rolled my shoulder to get rid of the pain....

Apparently WHAM! I fell to the floor. (I don't recall this happening- but judging by the monster bump on my head, pain on my elbow, and the people crowded around me....it happened.) This sweet lady was asking me what happened, asked when I ate last, if I was pregnant.  A manager brought me a glass of water then walked away (clearly concerned) and the lady got my co-worker.  I was initially just very embarrassed and shocked (hmm that's what they mean by shock) so I said I was fine and we left the store.

We didn't get far before I said that my head really was hurting and the bump was big- maybe I needed to see a doctor or something.  We asked if there was a clinic in the mall (it was a big mall) and were directed to an urgent care facility next to the mall.  That was the fastest experience seeing a doctor-ever!  He said I was probably fine but since I'm a flight attendant and don't live in the area, I should get a CAT-scan. Next thing I know- I was in an ambulance with paramedics slapping sticky things to my arms and legs, poking me with an IV and taking my blood pressure.

At the hospital they took my blood, and urine...did an EKG, took a chest x-ray an concluded that at the immediate moment I was OK, but needed a follow up exam.

At the urgent care- my first thought was "well...I have to work in the morning."  The first phone call wasn't to my mom or boyfriend. It was to scheduling.  How sad is that?!  End result was that I go home in the morning and get a follow-up exam with my own doctor (awesome. I just moved and haven't had a chance to find a new doctor in my new city)

My head hurts from the fall and I still have 4 EKG stickies that I can't rip off without causing pain.

All in all....worst way to be shorted pay for a 4 day trip- ever.

  1. Fainting is so scary and awful. It's just the worst feeling. I'm glad you're okay, hopefully everything checks out when you follow up with your doctor.
