Scary Statistics

I know on Twitter I told you I'd be blogging about my most recent trip: full of delays & having a flight with 1 passenger onboard. Well I read an article in Glamor Magazine that really spoke to me.

"Relationship Violence: The Secret That Kills 4 Women a Day"  The article features stories from young women 18-35 in America who were lucky enough to get out of abusive relationships- but faced life threatening situations.

These kinds of stories always seem to tug at my heart.  I was raised to be strong & my parents and family did an excellent job to show me how a woman is to be treated: With respect.  My mom watched a LOT of "Lifetime Original Movies."  You all know the ones- where the women are always beaten & a man is going to kill her and then she triumphs.  I guess watching those movies I always felt like "How did she let it get to that point?" and I promised myself to recognize the signs and be honest with myself.

So do you want to do something about raising awareness about Domestic Violence?  I do.  I have chosen m.powerment because mark. Products are products marketed towards young women- the age bracket experiencing the highest rate of domestic abuse.  Mark Cosmetics started m.powerment to bring awareness to and educate young women about dating violence and relationship abuse but to also recognize healthy relationships.

To learn more about this cause visit explore.meetmark/m_powerment where you can donate, be redirected to more resources, and buy products that will begin a dialogue with others about domestic violence.

As flight attendants, we are seen as a strong group of women.  But sometimes behind a smile might be a woman who is happy to come to work because she doesn't have to endure what's going on at home.  You might see her always checking her phone or fighting with a boyfriend.  Instead of ignoring it- lift her up & tell her that if she needs anything you're there. And mean it.  No woman- young or old- deserves to be abused in any way.  So if you see the signs. Do something about it. The simple act of caring might make all the difference.
