If I have learned anything in my short life.....Valentine's Day can be tricky for New Love. Do I get him anything? What if he gets me something & I get him nothing?! Okay so if I get him something what do I get that doesn't scare him away.Seriously people....Love is complicated but so simple at the same time. (Well obviously I'm no expert, but oh well. Listen up anyways.) If you have to ask yourself if he'd be scared off by a tiny gift- then you are not in that place in your relationship where you should make a huge deal out of Valentine's Day. Read that again. Get what I'm saying? If you aren't sure- then you don't know him well enough to know how he'd react or where you stand in your relationship....and it's safe to assume you haven't had a conversation about exclusivity. If you're not exclusive: Ladies- don't buy him anything. Men: if you want to be exclusive seal the deal- if not, don't lead her on either.
If you have recently become exclusive, there's no need for extravagance for Valentine's Day. Here are a few really simple, yet thoughtful ideas:- iTunes GiftCard: who doesn't like music, movies, tv shows & apps? no iPhone needed!
- Hershey's Kisses in a coffee mug with a Starbucks Gift Card.
- Handmade Card: Take yourself back to 3rd grade when you made paper hearts. Check out the one I posted on Twitter!
- MovieNight: Grab some Microwave Popcorn, a few movies from the RedBox, some wine if you're legal to consume and snuggle up on the couch with a movie (get a movie you know the other person will love- it's all about them tonight....that's right boys- get a chic flick if thats her thing!) Make it extra cool by hitting up the Dollar Tree and grabbing some plastic Movie Popcorn containers!
Whatever you do- be sure that the gift is simple and thoughtful. Ladies aren't expecting jewelry (well if she is this early in the relationship...RUN!!) and Men aren't really expecting anything. Men really never expect much so tapping into their interests and running with that is always a good idea to make them feel special & strokes their ego.
Have fun New Lovers!! (PS- I want to hear ALL about your V-Day!)
