So for those of you just starting to read my blog: I am back to commuting. Yes I'm quite possibly insane, but I moved 2hours away from my previous domicile and a lot of factors were involved in deciding to switch out. So far, I have had the luxury of trading trips in other bases while I finish up the move, so that's been quite convenient. September will be full time new base...San Fran & NYC all in a week. love it.
IRENE....what a bitch. I usually don't fly weekends because I'm a spoiled senior mama at a regional who gets what she wants in her schedule after 3 years of seniority. BUT this weekend I flew with one of my good friends. All day before we had to report to fly we were speculating about the outcome of our trip based on Irene. Friday went as planned. Saturday & Sunday went to hell. We were supposed to be flying in & out of our Northeast Hub from a northern New England city and end up in Raleigh, NC. We ended up flying straight to Raleigh and bypassing our hub city. Otherwise we would've been stuck in the storm in the Hub City with no hotel rooms. Sunday was supposed to be 4 flights and turned into a double deadhead back to base where I was able to finish up my move early.
In total I lost about 4 hours of flight pay since we don't have any pay protection in our contract.....but I was lucky. Many of our crews were stranded, or just put on alert to be ready to move planes around, and most lost between 10-15hrs of pay. That's a HUGE chunk of money for our Captains who make more than me.
Sorry this post wasn't that interesting....but I just wanted to update on Irene.
