Domino Effect

Usually when it rains- it pours.  In the airline industry if one thing happens in another part of the country- it usually effects operations where you are.  The weather where you might be sunny- and the weather where the delayed aircraft is coming from may be sunny....but think about the many cities the airplane was supposed to be in before yours.....domino effect.

Get to the point......okay.

Friday was one such day. The airplane we were supposed to get after our overnight had to divert that morning because of low visibility in its destination city. It was supposed to land at 1025am- diverted, then took off finally at 3pm to its original city....then had to deplane and load up to go back to the hub city- deplane and load up, get in line and take off for our city where they finished their day and we took the airplane. Scheduling changed our report time about 5 times before we left the hotel.  We were supposed to leave at 325pm and finish at 1130pm.  The aircraft didn't get in for our swap until about 8pm and we finished around 315am in our domicile.

Talk about a long day all around!  The other crew started at 630am and had to go back out again at 5am.  We couldn't really take a nap at the hotel, because our departure time kept changing- we didn't realize we had about 5 hours extra to nap and rest up for a long night.  Our passengers waited in the airport- most were rerouted, but for those who weren't....they were waiting because every hour it was pushed back another hour.  Most of them were very patient given the circumstances.

And tomorrow.....is recurrent ground school....where I get to prove that I can be a flight attendant for another year.
